Holster FAQs

Is a compact holster meant for compact guns and a full-size holster meant for full-size guns?

Compact actually refers to the size of the holster not the size of the guns it will fit. Same thing with full-size, which is the same frame as the compact with more material to enclose the barrel of the gun. Because one has an open muzzle and the other is closed, the holsters will have some variation in the firearms they fit. To determine fit, please take a look at the appropriate columns of the Will Fit List.

Will the barrel of my gun stick out of the bottom?

The compact holster was designed to allow gun barrels to stick out the bottom. Because of the open bottom, it can accommodate a longer barrel length than our full-size holster which has a more closed off bottom. However, we do have a full-size holster option for more leg protection and barrel coverage. Please check the Will Fit List first to determine which holster will best fit your firearm.

Will this fit my laser, lights or other attachments?

Unfortunately, no. This holster is designed to fit just the firearm by locking around the frame. Adding in attachments will affect the position of the firearm, and therefore, it’s retention. Customers have reported certain attachments or suppressors do fit in combination with their firearm, but those occurrences are rare.

Will the holster scratch my gun?

The holsters are made of a flexible nylon material. This material is not harder than the material that your firearm is made of and will not scratch it.

Can I modify the holster?

We have customers who have modified the holster to make it suit their needs. This is a very affordable and durable holster, at-home enthusiasts find it a great option to customize. However, once you have modified the holster, it does void the manufacturer warranty. Please keep safety in mind through your modification and know that you are making changes at your own risk.

Why isn't this made out of KYDEX®?

The first Stealth Operator holsters were made out of KYDEX®. But as we grew and knowledge expanded, we discovered a process and material for creating our holsters. Now, we are able to fully injection mold the holsters for precision. We achieve this with a nylon polymer that is not only more heat resistant than KYDEX®, but also more durable. We’ve run ours over with a truck and it has survived. Can you say that about KYDEX®.

How is the Will Fit List for this holster made?

We have three main holster bodies: compact, full-size and twin mag. For each of these holsters, we have a customer supplied Will Fit List where customers let us know that a firearm fit their holster. We also ask for pictures! Our list is ever growing, but we always note that proper fit of the holster remains the sole determination and liability of the buyer. Stealth Operator assumes no liability whatsoever for the selection of this product to perform to any level or definition of proper fit for any specific weapon.

We know you have your own ideas on fit, so we make it very easy to try it out. If you purchase directly from us and need to return it for any reason, we will provide a full refund.

What if my firearm isn't on the Will Fit List?

There are many makes and models out there and new ones coming out all of the time. There are so many that we can’t test them all, so we know our list is still growing. If you don’t see your firearm on there, please fill out the form at the bottom of the Will Fit List page. We will send you a discount on the holster to try it and report back to us with a picture about whether we should add it to our Will Fit List.

What does positive retention mean?

We often see people testing the holster by putting the gun in it and turning it over. While the holster will hold many guns securely that way, we do not recommend that as a retention test. To best test retention, attach the holster to your belt or pants and insert your firearm. The tension of the body against the holster increases the grip on the firearm and is an accurate test of how it will perform when you wear it.

Who buys this holster?

Anyone who has a firearm should consider this holster as a low-profile, light and durable option for everyday carry. But if you have multiple firearms and a holster for each or a bucket of holsters at home, give this a try to see how many of your other holsters you can replace!
